This website is always changing based on feedback and suggestions from users, thank you to those who have provided feedback and contributed to the development of this website. Recently, BOM rain radar images have been added to the map for most capital cities. If you want to get in touch with feedback, suggestions (such as adding new weather stations from specific yacht clubs, useful website features) etc please drop me an email at chris.ackland@gmail.com.

Welcome to the Live Wind website! This website provides real-time wind observation data from the Australia Government Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and several other sources including Ports Victoria. This site also displays sea surface and water temperatures for over 140 locations around Australia. Most data is updated every 10 minutes, and it shows the wind speed, wind direction, and gusts at over 720 locations across Australia. You can use this website to:

To get started, zoom to an area on the map. The website will then display the live wind observation data for that location. You can also zoom in and out of the map to see the wind conditions in different areas. We hope you find this website helpful! Here's some more info about the website:

Other benefits of the website include:

This website was built by Chris Ackland, the developer of the Vic Wind iOS App. The Australia Government Bureau of Meterology provides frequent data updates for a large amount (724) of Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) around Australia and in some offshore islands. This website represents the AWS data in an interactive map across the entirety of Australia. This includes wind speed, wind gust, wind direction, air temperature and apparent air temperature data. The data is usually refreshed every 10 minutes for most AWS locations.

Also, access live and accurate wind information from critical points within Ports Victoria. Our website delivers real-time data feeds from Point Lonsdale, guarding the entrance to Port Phillip Bay; Point Nepean, at the bay's southern head; the vital shipping channel marker at Hovell Pile; the bustling cargo hubs of Webb Dock and South Wharf; the popular Breakwater Pier; and Melbourne VTS, the heart of vessel traffic management. Whether you're planning a voyage, heading out on the water, or simply need to monitor wind conditions in the Melbourne port area, our clear and up-to-date information will keep you prepared.

Sandringham Yacht Club weather data is now available on this website. Please note that due to external factors; such as elevation and surrounding structures; the wind readings from Sandringham Yacht Club may be slightly higher or lower than those reported by the Bureau of Meteorology’s Automatic Weather Stations.

The map webpage has several layers which can be turned on/off by users.

Lastly, use this website at your own risk. Before you engage in any activity, make sure to check with other people who know the areas well, check for adverse conditions, use caution, and never venture into conditions that exceed your ability level and equipment.
